Musa HADID

Musa Hadid (1965 in Ramallah) - A Palestinian engineer holding the position of mayor of Ramallah since the fall of 2012. He’s also chairing The Palestinian Federation of Palestinian Local Authorities for the second consecutive session.

Uprising and educational attainment 

Musa Hadid was born in 1965 in the city of Ramallah. In 1993, he graduated from Birzeit University with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. 

Working life

Hadid's political life began when he enrolled in the student movement during his school years at Birzeit University. He was arrested by the Israeli Forces at the outbreak of the first Palestinian intifada.

In addition to his current position as mayor of Ramallah, he is also:

• President of the Palestinian Federation of Local Authorities 

• Chairman of the Jerusalem Governorate Water Authority Board 

• Co-chair of UCLG-MEWA 

• Member of the Supreme Presidential Committee to Follow Church Affairs in Palestine 

• Member of the Municipal Development and Lending Fund 

• Vice-Chairman of the Board of the Independence Park 

• Administrative Board Member of the Yasser Arafat Museum 

• Board Member of the Mahmoud Darwish Museum

• Member of the Special Committee for National Planning regional development

• Member of the Presidential Committee for Civil Peace.

Local Authorities elections, 2012

In October 2012, elections were held for local authorities in the State of Palestine, where three electoral blocs ran for the mayor of Ramallah municipality. The  “Abnaa Al-Balad” bloc was headed by Hadid, and it won 8 out of 15 seats. 

Local elections, 2017

In May 2017, Hadid again ran for local elections, presiding over the "Abnaa AlBalad" bloc, one of four competing blocs. The bloc also won eight of the 15 seats.
